As future physicians, medical students represent the leading edge of social change; we are the future of medicine in this country! Political leaders want to hear what you have to say, and take it very seriously. Medical students nationwide are initiating student chapters in support of single payer advocacy. These groups have worked hard to make impressive progress locally. If we combine efforts and pool our knowledge and enthusiasm, the results will be extremely powerful.
The links below provide you with easy step by step guidance. Start by inviting a PNHP speaker to your class. PNHP also accepts interns throughout the year.
Suggested Activities for Each Month
June/July:
Sign the Open letter to the candidates
Join the Student monthly email list
August/September:
Host a booth at your school’s activity fair (we can send flyers)
Invite a single payer speaker
October/November:
Vote! Educate others on candidate health plans
Attend PNHP’s Annual Meeting and Leadership Training, October 24-25 in San Diego
Begin targeting lawmakers and bills for Lobby Day
December/January:
Approach Dean/faculty for their endorsement
Continue to organize for a Lobby Day
February/March:
AMSA convention March 11-15, DC
Single payer activist convention, TBA
Hold a Lobby Day. Get the press involved!
April/May:
Hold events for Cover the Uninsured Week
(could include Sicko/Frontline screening, speakers, rallies)
Op-Ed or other media coverage of your event(s)
